Cheese, people: Get into it!

Well, spring has sprung, as the story goes, and I’ve been gathering those proverbial rosebuds.  The weather’s been great (notwithstanding today’s freakishly intense windstorm), and people are entertaining in the outdoors, once more.  So too are many of Las Vegas’ fantastic restaurants, as they open their patios to guests.

Your hosts, Joele and Michael Corrigan

Take Vintner Grill, for instance – the comfortably posh oasis for oenophiles on the edge of Summerlin.  That place has been turning it out ever since opening night, and continuing in that spirit, Joele and Michael Corrigan will be hosting VG’s annual Wine & Wisconsin Artisan Cheese Tasting, this Saturday (May 1st) from 4 – 7pm.  The affair is open to the public and will benefit a wonderful organization, Nevada Ballet Theatre.  Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door.

Guests at Saturday’s tasting (for which attendees are encouraged to dress in a “casual fabulous” kind of way) will be treated to an abundant assortment of delectable appetizers from Vintner Grill’s Executive Chef Matthew Silverman.  Which makes sense, seeing as Chef Silverman just happens to be a Chef Ambassador for the aforementioned Wisconsin Artisan Cheese Council, making Silverman the “big cheese” of the night. (Sorry.  I saw it coming three sentences ago, and couldn’t help myself…)

Vintner Grill Lamb Sliders
Vintner Grill's Lamb Sliders with Cheddar - YUM!

Me?  I’m hoping to see some of those rather succulent lamb sliders with the aged Carr Valley 6-year old Cheddar (you know how I love me a nice zesty Cheddar).

As you stroll around, savoring your wine and cheese, let the dulcet tones of Justin Olsen caress your eardrums with the arrangements of Rat Pack-esque song-styling for which he’s known.  Also, Las Vegas’ Norm Baker Motor Company will be showing-off a pair of brand spankin’ new models from British carmaker, LOTUS - the Evora and the 2-Eleven.  Finally, there will be a silent auction featuring a number of exquisite dining and shopping opportunities, with funds going toward the venerated Nevada Ballet Theatre.  Speaking of NBT, I just thought of a good one: A guy walks into a barre and says “Ow!”  (Nothing?  Really?  Wow… Tough webzine!)
