Splash into the Midsummer Madness with Playboy and Jenny McCarthy
(08/11/2010)
When I was barely into my second decade, I bore witness to one of the pillars of contemporary cinema. I’m referring, of course, to Porky’s II: The Next Day. In the film (a sequel to 1982’s Porky’s), the Drama Club at Angel Beach High School is putting on a Shakespeare Festival. Unfortunately, a local pastor, the Reverend Bubba Flavel, along with his followers (The Righteous Flock), is trying to shut it down, citing the indecency of Shakespeare. And thus was I introduced to Shakespeare’s classic romp, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Jenny McCarthy
This Saturday (August 14th) at 9pm, Palms Pool & Bungalows will be hosting Playboy’s iconic Midsummer Night’s Dream party in Las Vegas, for the fourth year in a row. This year’s theme is A Masquerade Lingerie Bacchanalia and is certain to bring all of Las Vegas’ most diabolical Gods and Goddesses out to play.
What’s more, the party will be hosted by the lovely, funny, and talented author/actress/activist/model (and let’s not forget MILF), Jenny McCarthy; herself a Playboy Playmate (Miss October 1993, then Playmate of the Year-1993).
And, as if that wasn’t enough, Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor, Kevin Dillon (better-known as Johnny “Drama” Chase on the hit HBO series Entourage) will be celebrating his 45th birthday at the festive fête, that night (much as one might imagine his Entourage alter-ego so doing).
Bryan Greenberg and Victor Rasuk
Nice kitty...
Also making appearances on the sexy scene this Saturday will be Victor Rasuk and BryanGreenberg, the stars of How to Make It in America – HBO’s newest comedy series (not-at-all-coincidentally) brought to you by the producers of Entourage (including Mark Wahlberg, Rob Weiss, Ian Edelman, Steven Levinson, et al.). How to… debuted this past February on the celebrated pay-cable network, and is currently in production for its second season.
To get in on the action, a costume or mask is required. Channel your inner Dionysus as you get-down with your bad self in a one-of-a-kind space-scene featuring décor that runs to the wild and mysterious, and with not-to-be-missed entertainment (not to mention top-shelf libations). Performance artists will be mingling with the guests among a veritable jungle of props created exclusively for this event as well as state-of-the-art lighting.

And for those of you with a philanthropic bent, a representative from Generation Rescue (a nonprofit international movement supported by McCarthy, comprised of scientists, parents, and physicians researching the causes and treatments for autism, ADHD, and chronic illness) will be on-hand at the event to answer any questions you might have, as well as to collect donations (which though encouraged are not at all required).
In the end though, I am reminded of the words of Vera Charles (First Lady of the American Theatre) in AuntieMame: “After all, it's only…Midsummer Madness.”
