Phileas Fogg by Fiona Staples |
When I was but a wee lad, still in short-pants, I was absolutely obsessed with Phileas Fogg – the globetrotting hero of Jules Vernes’ Around the World in Eighty Days. Fogg was the quintessence of cool (I imagined him rather like a Victorian Steve McQueen), had impeccable manners, and was the epitome of the proper Englishman. (God, I was a pretentious little twit…) Anyhow, Fogg’s address was №7 Savile Row – a sublimely stylish address, it was explained to me, as it was in Mayfair, on the street made famous for “bespoke” menswear, where the suits range from the staid (the traditional Brit gentleman’s suiting designed by Gieves & Hawkes, favored by HRH Charles, The Prince of Wales) to the showy (Jack Nicholson’s costumes in Batman, designed by Nutters of Savile Row).
Now, Las Vegas has a Savile Row of its very own, and thanks to some very astute planning on the part of its operators (Angel Management Group), is motoring full speed ahead toward becoming the LV watering-hole of choice for our generation’s Phileas Foggs.
Mike Diamond |
Right off the bat, you know it’s gonna be something special, because manning the door is none other than Aussie nightlife guru Mike Diamond, who made his bones opening no less a venue than New York’s ultra-exclusive hang, Bungalow 8.
Rihanna |
And while I’m gonna be telling y’all a lot more about this exceptional new lounge in the weeks that follow, since I’m currently a thousand miles away (floating off the coast of Belize, to be more precise), lemme just tell you that tonight’s preview party is gonna be worth checking-out. Why? Because while DJ Danny Boy spins a delicious mix of sultry tunes, the evening’s hostess is none other than that good girl gone bad, Rihanna. No rude boys or cameras allowed!
