I’m a big fan of stand-up comedy (well, good stand-up, anyhow). So, when I found out that John Pinette – a longtime favorite of mine – had a new, one-hour special, on Comedy Central, I was thrilled.

Pinette is a fantastic observational humorist, and broke through in 1991, when he was invited to tour with Frank Sinatra. This, along with his roles as the car-jack victim on the Seinfeld finale, and as Edna Turnblad, in the Broadway musical, Hairspray (taking over for Bruce Villanch), brought him fame. But it was his now-famous bit about Chinese buffets that made him a star on the comedy circuit; earning him the American Comedy Award for “Funniest Male Stand-up Comic” (1999).
More than two decades in, and his sharp, emphatically-delivered bits about vegans, futons, Cake Boss, arugula, gluten, Prince Edward Island, Weight Watchers, ice skating, and coupons, have ensured that Still Hungry does not disappoint. There were a number of times where I was laughing so hard that I missed the show and had to rewind a few clicks on my DVR; and at one point I was actually forced to pause, due to a cramp that had developed in my side.
So, if you are looking for a side-splitting spell of comic gold, press-up into John Pinette’s new stand-up special, Still Hungry. You’ll laugh ‘til it hurts.
