I, for the most part, eschew politics.  But, every once in a while a candidate comes along whose views I admire.  And while they say that politics makes for strange bedfellows; as I witnessed this evening, sometimes it is possible to make (nearly) everyone happy – or at least make me happy, which is reall my primary concern.

Tonight, I attended a fund-raiser for the re-election of Secretary of State Ross Miller.  If you read the article I posted the other day, you’d know that I attended a similar event for Miller on Monday.  This time, Ross was pressing the flesh (purely platonically) with the LGBTQ community at an event hosted by Josh Miller (no relation) and Gavin Goorjian, at the lovely home of the latter.

Ross, a second-generation Nevada politico (his father is former Governor Bob Miller), has a strong following with Nevada’s gay community, due in no small part to his unyielding support of the state’s Domestic Partnership law.  Add to this that he’s erudite, amiable, charismatic, has a firm handshake, and is a sharp dresser, to boot – well, as the saying goes, he’s getting “…tens across the board!”

One of Miller’s hot-button issues that I especially like is holding our elected officials accountable for their actions.  In today’s environment, the time has really come for folks to put-up or shut-up.  If you do something, own-up to it – that’s all I’m saying.  (Of course, I’ve never been busted by the press in a scandal that proves me to be a hypocrite, so I could feel entirely differently if the John Lobb were on the other foot, as it were…)

Anyhow, Ross Miller’s a great guy.  He’s a staunch ally to a number of diverse communities throughout the state, and is committed to making Nevada a better place to both live and work.  So, carry on, Sir: You’ve got my vote!
