Christian Dior. Yves Saint Laurent. Marc Bohan. Gianfranco Ferré. John Galliano. And now, Raf Simons. The Belgian designer is the sixth couturier to helm the luxury label that, since 1946, has been among the most prestigious in high fashion (a position that’s been vacant, since Galliano’s ouster, last March, after video footage surfaced of a drunken Galliano making anti-Semitic slurs, at a café in Paris).
Since last winter, Simons has been singled-out as a forerunner in the worldwide industry search that included Marc Jacobs (Louis Vuitton), Sarah Burton (Alexander McQueen), Christopher Kane (Versus), Tom Ford, Olivier Theyskens (Theory), Alber Elbaz (Lanvin), Hedi Slimane (YSL), Nicolas Ghesquière (Balenciaga), Azzedine Alaïa, Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy), and many more.
Now, the former creative director at Jil Sander has accepted the helm at DIOR, where he will be officially serving as Artistic Director of Haute Couture, Women’s Ready-to-Wear, and Accessories, and will present his first collection, in July, during Paris Couture Week.
