Patrick Kelley Bike Day at Piero's Italian Cuisine |
Named after the late Patrick Kelley, PK Bike Day is one of those rare charitable events that really leave one with a feel-good feeling. You are able to see, immediately, where your dollars are being put to use, and can look into the face of the child who is benefiting from your kindness, whether as a volunteer, a donor, or an organizer.
Pat Kelley was one of those people who just made others around him strive to be better people. He had a thirst for life that was contagious and lived his life to its fullest. One thing that everyone who knew him can agree upon is Pat’s love for kids (for in many ways, he was just a big kid, himself).
Kids from Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars |
Is it any wonder then, that the organization that bears his name has an annual fund-raiser that not only teams-up with the Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars to give away bikes to in-need and at-risk students from around the Las Vegas Valley, but also gives scholarships to deserving students at the college level?
PK Youth Foundation's Board of Directors |
This year, kids from three different Clark County schools were bused-in to Piero’s Italian Cuisine, where they were treated to a buffet lunch, given a properly fitting helmet, allowed to pick-out the bike of their choice, and given a lesson in bicycle safety. Additionally, three students were awarded college scholarships on behalf of the Patrick Kelley Youth Foundation. Leave it to a guy like Pat to keep everyone smiling, even from the great beyond. |
