Strip-side dining (or lunching) is always an experience; although the higher the caliber of restaurant (and host-property), the higher the bill. This isn’t anything newsworthy, in Vegas or anywhere else, for that matter. It’s simple economics. So, I really enjoy partaking of and telling people about the 2012 Lunch Menu at Estiatorio Milos at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
For a mere $20.12, guests are able to partake of a three-course prix fixe menu – and it doesn’t consist of the previous night’s leftovers; but rather the fresh Mediterranean seafood selections that made Milos (the brainchild of Chef Costas Spiliadis), the great Greek star on the culinary scenes in Montreal and New York, years before opening in Las Vegas.
Last week, I met a colleague for lunch. Since he’s a far busier fellow than I, getting in and out of the restaurant in a timely fashion was imperative. This is another thing at which Milos excels – but what’s really worth watching is the smooth way in which the staff never once makes the meal feel rushed, nor are the portions anything but bountiful.
Available every day, from noon until 2:30pm, the 2012 Lunch Menu features a sextet of starters, and another six entrée selections, as well as a trio of deserts, from which patrons are allowed to choose one from each list. Two starters and two entrées each carry a supplemental charge, but most of the menu does not.
I was so into my Grilled Octopus appetizer (charcoal-broiled, sashimi-quality Mediterranean octopus, with chickpeas, capers, and wild kritamo), that I was nearly finished before remembering to take a photo, for you (sorry). Rest assured - it was as yummy as it ever was, and well worth the $10 up-charge. I’m also a big fan of the Tomato Salad (with feta cheese, Greek herbs, and extra virgin olive oil), but more on that, another time.
While my companion ordered the Nova Scotia Deep Sea Lobster Pasta (served in a light tomato sauce) – again, even with the $15 supplement, quite a deal; I ordered the Tuna Burger (with daikon radish, fresh orange, and mint & zucchini fries). Both tasted at least as good as they looked. For desert, in a nod to my current weight-loss streak, I decided to forgo my usual Walnut Pie, in favor of the Yogurt Martini (with a raspberry coulis and fresh berries). I was not disappointed. And you won’t be, either.
