I’ve been more than a bit under the weather, of late, so I’ve decided to use the down-time to catch-up on a few of the events I’ve been remiss in posting and about which I know y’all want to be kept abreast.
Another of these affairs happened a couple weeks back, when mega-producer Sherry Lansing (Fatal Attraction, The Accused) was the keynote speaker at the annual luncheon held to honor the Lions of Judah. What, you might be asking, is a Lion of Judah? Well, in this instance it has nothing to do with reggae music, and I daresay you’ll see nary a dreadlock in the bunch. Rather, it signifies those who give at or above a certain level, each year, to the UJC/Jewish Federation of Las Vegas.
A few highlights from where I was standing… First, I got my photo taken with Ms. Lansing, whom I’ve admired since I was a name-dropping little twerp of 14, with my first subscription to Premiere (circa 1987) – and who laughed when I told her as much. Then there was the itsy-bitsy gift bag that contained a generous gift card to Barneys New York. Follow this with getting up-close and personal with the beautiful bauble generously donated to the affair by Van Cleef & Arpels at The Shoppes at The Palazzo (a lovely amethyst and pink sapphire ring, from the esteemed French jeweler's "Hawaii" collection). Finally, there was Christy Molasky’s fierce styling of her Lion pin, on the hip-pocket of her dress (très chic, non?).
And my favorite line of the day came when I admired Karin Sporn’s gorgeous gold get-up. “Aläia?” I asked. “No,” she replied, somewhat wistfully, “It’s Valentino.” At which point, I channeled my inner home-girl, put my hand on her arm, crooked an eyebrow, and declared “Ain’t no shame, in that game!” (We laughed…)
