I like a party that grows organically; where people enjoy themselves so much that they return the following week with a friend, and so on...  I’m also a sucker for a great concept.  Throw in a plentiful buffet of tasty treats, groovy tunes and crowds of fresh, young things enjoying themselves in a pretty room, and I’m there.  And so it is with HIGH SOCIETY on Sundays at Palms Casino Resort.

A beautiful Sunday

Attendees of the new "Dayclub"  at Nove Italiano atop the Palms’ Fantasy Tower, may find attending HIGH SOCIETY rather akin to watching a recreation of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!, only with catering and champagne.  Girls attired as coquettish punks in fishnets, neon-fringed tulle tutus and corseted bustiers dance on the bar as patrons dance to songs like “Bulletproof” by La Roux.  Actually, one of that song’s lyrics well sums-up the party: “Tick, tick, tick on the watch, and life’s too short for me to stop…”  It’s as though, being Sunday (the conclusion of what was, with any luck, a fun weekend), people want to get in that one last hurrah before the work-week resumes again, once more.

The room manages to accommodate those seeking a long, leisurely meal in resort wear just as easily as those in their Sunday finest.  And while I’m not a proponent of the “mandal” ever being present at meals (chalk it up to a bad experience involving an inopportune cameo by a hairy-man-toe one night at Next Door Nobu…), it seems to work, here.  Vilebrequin trunks are as de rigueur as Louboutin peep-toe slingbacks, and I say “Bravo!”

As spring gives way to summer, and the mercury soars into the hundreds, by the time Sundays roll-around, people are gonna be craving a little air conditioning while they get their sip-on, and HIGH SOCIETY is sittin’ pretty to offer it up to them – armed with an abundant buffet and terrific music.  What could be a better way to wrap-up the weekend?
