Picture it.  Las Vegas.  Sometime around the turn of the century (this century).   A pair of Las Vegas locals – “Hairstylist to the Hip” Staci Linklater, and James P. Reza (founder of the pop-culture weekly, Scope, that evolved into Greenspun Media Group’s present day Las Vegas Weekly) – opened Globe Salon.

By mixing uptown savvy with downtown flair (and a bit of the reverse, just to keep things fresh), Globe fast became one of Las Vegas’ premiere hair salons, is a member of the salon networks for Kerastase, Bumble and bumble and BioElements, and is one of only three Nevada salons recognized by ELLE’s highly-esteemed list of the “Top 100 Salons” (and the only one so-named for consecutive years – 2010 and 2011).

A couple of years ago, the salon moved into its swanky new digs, on the ground floor of Downtown Las Vegas’ tony SOHO Lofts, complete with a shampooing lounge where patrons are seated in the most sublime Shiatsu massage chairs you’ll find on this side of the Pacific Rim (seriously, you won’t want to get up).

So, now, a dozen years in, Staci and James are celebrating the salon’s 12th anniversary with Fashion Fling III, a charity mixer being held this Saturday, November 10th, from 7:30pm – 11pm, at the studio of acclaimed artist, Tim Bavington – who has designed a custom t-shirt especially for the event.

The artistic Wonderland-themed affair, entitled Fashion Fling III: Down the Rabbit Hole, will include food and drinks by Ciao Uva, The Cupcakery, Firefly Tapas Bar, N9NE Steakhouse, Nove Italiano, and Triple George Grill.  There’s gonna be tons of stimulating socializing, and an Alice-themed fashion show, featuring clothing from The Gypsy Den, with make-up by L Make-up Institute and hair by the Globe Salon team (under the creative direction of Globe’s Samantha O’Brien).

Staci and James have chosen Casa de Luz’s wonderful LV ArtReach program as the beneficiary of Fashion Fling III.  A non-profit committed to furthering the arts by and for inner-city kids in Las Vegas, LV ArtReach grants quality opportunities to at-risk youth so they are able to expand their skills and self-esteem through new creative outlets of expression as well as mentoring from local artists.
