HIGH SOCIETY debuts this Sunday at Palms Casino Resort

Sunday is the grand opening of HIGH SOCIETY, a “dayclub” at NOVE Italiano, N9NE Group’s ultra-modern Italian restaurant atop the Fantasy Tower at Palms Casino Resort.  I’ve gotta tell ya, since I was fortunate enough to attend a special friends & family “play day”  run-through on Easter Sunday, last week (because really, how else should a nice Jewish boy have celebrated the anniversary of the resurrection of Christ, but to eat, drink, and be Mary?), I’m already a fan.

First of all, too many of Las Vegas’ venues are simply wasted during daylight hours.  Millions of dollars have been spent building out these spectacular spaces, and the public usually only gets to see them for roughly 40 hours each week, give or take (5pm – 11pm, 7 nights/week).  As a matter of fact, when my folks decided that they wanted to host a brunch on the morning after the wedding of my brother and sister-in-law (aka Happy and Christy), 5 years ago, I had this very same revelation; and I called Mario Maccioni to inquire about doing it at Le Cirque at The Bellagio.  Needless to say, it was a truly gorgeous affair.  Take a beautiful room, a first-class wait-staff, and top-shelf cuisine; then add to it natural daylight, and set the whole affair to some wonderful ambient music; and folks, you’ve got a particularly swanky affair on your hands.

Now, there are a whole slew of facets to HIGH SOCIETY, not the least of which is the society aspect.  This is a very social affair, and N9NE Group has ensured this by lubricating the goings-on with wonderful liquor specials including 375mL bottles of Ketel One Vodka, Ketel One Citroen, Russian Standard, Don Julio Blanco, 10 Cane, Jack Daniel’s, and Champagne Perriet-Jouët - for only $99 each!  I think this a particularly clever concept, since it is not infrequent that a group of two or four people might seem overwhelmed by the notion of consuming a whole fifth of whisky with their brunch, lunch, or early evening festivities (we’re talking about daytime, after all – not to mention that it’s a Sunday, and many have to be bright and shiny the following morning).  This isn’t to say that it’s unheard of – just that when it does happen, repercussions tend to follow.

The music falls under the bailiwick of DJs Mark Stylz and Zen Freeman, and will start with a decidedly more subtle and breezy approach, before ramping-up as the day progresses into evening.  Expect the music to reflect that people will be eating and conversing in the earlier part of the day, and then dancing on the bar as the sun sets (and the champers has flowed).  Meanwhile, the servers and staff have been costumed in a very fun, sexy, and vivacious manner: Oliver Twist meets A Clockwork Orange for the boys; while the girls dress as punk-rock coquettes (think Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City intro – but re-imagined by Vivienne Westwood) – with everyone in vibrant Technicolor.

As for the food, Chef Geno Bernardo will be shifting things into overdrive, putting-out a buffet that overflows like a cornucopia of plenty, 51 stories in the air, including paninis-a-plenty, and goodies-a-gogo; not to mention a chicken-apple sausage that brings a tear to my eye, and the best bacon in Las Vegas.  FYI – this is not a declaration I make lightly.  One doesn’t develop the waistline I have by having been shy of bacon.  And I’m here to tell you – NOVE’s bacon is perfection!  It’s thick and firm and juicy and meaty and decidedly not limp.  And really, is there anything worse than being hung-over on a Sunday morning and forced to deal with a chaffing-dish full of flaccid bacon (other than realizing that one appreciates the same qualities in one’s breakfast meat as – well, never mind…)?
