When I went to school in New Orleans, there was a symbiosis that had long been established between the all-night drinking and the incredible breakfast joints that wisely opened to soak-up the booze.

Historically, that meant the Camellia Grill for those located Uptown, in the Garden District, by Tulane; while those Downtown, by the French Quarter, headed to Mother’s.

Now, I adore Mother’s, but the Camellia Grill is particularly special; so when I found-out that the Uptown favorite had opened a satellite location on Chartres Street, just down the block from where we were staying, at the W New Orleans French Quarter, I insisted on dragging Mom and Jacob there, for our final breakfast in the Big Easy.

Each of us had something special, and it was a party in each of our mouths.  For Jacob, this meant the Vegetable Omelette (with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, Bell peppers, American and Swiss cheese, with hash browns); for Mom, this meant the Manhattan Omelette (corned beef, potatoes, onions, American and Swiss cheese, with hash browns); and for me, the Word Special (double-hot sausage on a special roll with lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise, with fries).  Word?  Word.

If you have a hankering for some incredible early eats that will leave your tummy smiling (although your arteries might not agree) make sure to check-out the Camellia Grill.
