Las Vegas-based Buddha Brand has built itself on a philosophy of creating strongly designed products that serve a purpose. The company’s breakout product, Buddha Balm – the premium, all-natural, plant-based lip balm – exemplifies that philosophy and bears the three exemplars of Buddha Brand’s raison d'être, that all of those purposeful products be “beneficial, soulful, and enlightening.” That’s a pretty tall order, for a lip balm – or any consumer product, for that matter.
And yet, entrepreneur Anthony Spiegel has done just that; by collaborating with Downtown Las Vegas-based contemporary artist, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, whose much sought-after brand of “hyper-stylized Japanese pop-art” (described as such, by the friendly folks from Art Production Fund) is a shining example of Las Vegas’ ever-increasing inclusion in the global conversation.
The new Limited Edition Artist Series features a 4-pack of the original Buddha Balm flavors (Mandarin Orange Ginger, Burnt Sugar Fig, Lychee Pomegranate, and Crushed Mint Pineapple), with the tubes wrapped in Machida’s cheerfully-colored designs of waves and clouds.
Furthermore, Buddha Brand has released two Machida-designed Custom Aluminum Water Bottles. Made in America, each of the 24oz bottles is constructed of 100% recycled aluminum, and is available in one of two styles: Machida’s “Cloud” design on a white bottle, or the artist’s “Wave” design on an unfinished industrial silver bottle.
All of it goes toward another tenet of Buddha Brand; that art be accessible. And what could be more accessible than that tube of lip balm, in your pocket (except maybe that aluminum water bottle in your cup-holder)? Either way – this collaboration puts a spring in my step and a smile on my face (not to mention some much-needed nourishment on my lips, at this brisk time of year).
