Back in 2020, with all of the nonsense circulating about the legitimacy of mail-in ballots or lack thereof (nonsense circulates, still), I was pretty psyched when I received an email from the Clark County Registrar of Voters asking if I’d like to sign up for BallotTrax.  I did and have felt completely secure about mailing in my ballots in the one midterm and two general elections since then (as well as their respective primaries).

What’s BallotTrax, you might be asking?  BallotTrax is a simple-to-use, program—designed by Denver-based i3Logix, Inc—to track the status of mail-in ballots in participating counties and to alert participating voters (via their choice of email, text message, or phone) as to the status of their respective ballot in the process.

With regards to Election 2024, BallotTrax is being utilized statewide in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Utah, and in the District of Columbia, as well as in select counties in Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, and Tennessee, Virginia.

In addition to being able to check on the status of my ballot online at any time (at https://Clark.BallotTrax.net), I was notified by both email and text message on October 10, letting me know that my ballot had been mailed to me and to be on the lookout for it.  I then received another email on October 20, informing me that USPS had scanned my ballot and was on its way to the Clark County Registrar of Voters.  Finally, on October 25, I received the last email and text of this election cycle, letting me know that my local election official had received my ballot.

Now, to those doubters, sticks-in-the-mud, conspiracy theorists, and all-around haters who will no doubt muse that my notification was not tailored to me and was sent to everyone, I would point out that there’s absolutely no way that anyone, myself included, could possibly have predicted that it would take me a week to fill out my ballot, another two days before I walked it out to my mailbox, and yet another to remember to lift the red flag on the side of my mailbox.

So, hooray for BallotTrax, I say!  And for Pete’s sake, y’all, VOTE!!
