When you write for monthly periodicals, you’re usually looking at a one-to-two-month lead-time for anything with a semblance of timeliness. What makes this so weird is that by the time you arrive at that event you wrote about a couple months prior, you experience a sort of déjà vu. Thankfully, so many of the happenings about which I write, actually surpass expectations (no, not all of them; but definitely a majority).
That’s why I’m really excited about 2013; while I’ve already previewed upcoming events, if they’re even half as exciting as they appear to be, the next couple of months are gonna be MAJOR!
There are gonna be concerts, in venues up-and-down the Strip, Off-Strip, Downtown, and all around; by everyone from Nathalie Merchant, Morrissey, and Itzhak Perlman to The Who, Lady Gaga, and P!nk.
Nevada Ballet Theatre’s annual Cartier-sponsored Black & White Ball will be honoring the Bob Mackie-clad Mitzi Gaynor as “Woman of the Year” in January; while Keep Memory Alive has moved their annual Power of Love Gala from February to April, as this year’s event is honoring the 80th Birthdays of two longtime friends, Quincy Jones and Sir Michael Caine. And peeking ahead even further (to early May), this year’s Flair for Care luncheon to benefit Nathan Adelson Hospice is featuring a live fashion-show by Duchess of Cambridge fave, Roland Mouret.
And let’s not forget about all of the new venues that are opening this year! Angel Management Group is opening Hakkasan at the MGM Grand, where Studio 54 used to be. A fabulous champagne bar is popping its cork at Caesars; and there are restaurants galore opening, reopening, rebranding, and more.
Oy! I need a TUMS and a nap, just thinking about all of all that fun!
