This weekend, Jacob and I decided to do something a little different, and headed up to the Resort on Mount Charleston, to partake of their Labor Day BBQ Buffet. It was just what we needed.
We hopped in the car, and drove the half-hour drive from Spring Valley to Mount Charleston, and it was a breeze. I’m not good on car trips (though I daresay few with ADHD are), but this drive went by, in a snap. Much of the credit for this goes to Jacob, reading me excerpts from the famed September Issue of VOGUE, while we listened to a delicious mélange of Classic Rock and ‘70s AM Gold, courtesy of 106.5FM

Once there, we marveled at the beautiful day, and the fact that it’s at least 10°F cooler, up in the Springs Mountains, than it is here, in the Valley. Also, the sweet-natured dogs at many of the tables set-up on the terrace (an extremely pet-friendly resort, pets are not allowed in the dining room).

The buffet, prepared by Executive Chef Charles Robert, featured de rigueur weekend barbeque fare, such as Hamburgers with all the fixings, Veggie Burgers, BBQ Chicken, Marinated Flank Steak, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, and Kosher Hot Dogs. For dessert, there was a Chocolate Fondue station, with Fresh Strawberries, Cubes of Rice Krispy Treats, Pound Cake, and Peanut Butter Cookies.
Throw in the freshly brewed Iced Tea, the gorgeous blue skies and whispy white clouds, and the kind of spaced-out and kind of fantastic New Age/Jazz Duo (think of Ashford & Simpson [olav ha’shalom] in space-aged make-up, wearing Caribbean-styled versions of Eileen Fisher-type garments, in lime and white (her) and burnt sienna (him).
Jacob and I always have a good time at the Resort on Mount Charleston. Only next time, we won’t forget to bring Sammy.
