Playing the Colosseum at Caesars Palace is a dream for any performer, but when you’re the fast-talking star of the E! pop-cult talk-show Chelsea Lately, you’ve gotta make sure your skills are razor sharp. So, in preparation for her one-woman show this Saturday, November 14th at 10:30pm, the lovely Chelsea Handler sharpened that rapier wit of hers with an exclusive interview on ShulmanSays. Here are the results:
ShulmanSays: How much of your writing is anecdotally enhanced?

CHELSEA HANDLER: Most of my material for stand up and books comes from something that happened in my life at some point. The show is more celebrity driven, so I like the opportunity to tell different stories on stage. Obviously for comedy we all exaggerate things to a point, but most of what I say about my family, my friends, or myself is based in truth. If you have ever seen my stand up or read one of my books, you’d know that’s a scary fact.
SS: My father advised me that he never does business with a guy who won’t sit down and have a drink with him. Does this make sense to you, and why?
CHELSEA: I don’t trust people who don’t drink, so that makes perfect sense. If you lose it after a few drinks, then it’s best to keep it in check. But don’t ever cut it out completely…nobody likes a quitter.
SS: Have you ever thought about starting your own religion? I.e. Chelsism?
CHELSEA: I have enough of my own problems with being half Jewish and half Mormon. I can’t get involved in anything else.
SS: Are you and Chuy buds off-camera? If so, what do you do?
CHELSEA: Chuy and I are close. We have to be since we share a bunk bed. We don’t hang out much outside of work, but that’s mostly because he doesn’t want to. He’s always running around with at least 4 girls at a time, and says that I cramp his style. I’m fine with it. He’s a pain to go out with since most bars don’t have booster seats.
