Nine Years of N9NE

This November will mark nine years since George Maloof opened Palms Casino Resort, and as such, it will be the 9th Anniversary of N9NE Steakhouse (in Las Vegas, anyhow).  While that number, in itself, is quite respectably for any restaurant; for one to remain as deservedly popular as Michael Morton and Scott deGraff’s has through such a topsy-turvy decade of openings and closings, in a city like Las Vegas – well, it’s just damned impressive.

Last night, I decided to treat my buddy Evan to dinner at N9NE.  As per usual, the joint was hopping!  It’s always busy, and still, even when filled to the brim with hotel guests and tourists, one is usually bound to run into a table or two, filled with local friends.  And if not, one of the town's most convivial barmen, John O'Donnell knows everybody on the scene, and is always there with a nod, a wave, and a cheerful “Hey Mate!”

But the real action, at N9NE is on the menu, in the kitchen, and served on the plates.  Chef Barry Dakake helms one of the most consistently great kitchens in town – on or off the Strip.  Whether you’re hankering for a terrific steak followed by a nice port, or just to nibble on some crispy rock shrimp while checking-out the girls at the bar, who think that coming to Vegas means wearing skirts so high the world’s their gynecologist; well, N9NE Steakhouse is just the place you’ve been looking for.
