Munch Bar at Caesars Palace – An Exclusive First-Look |

Sometimes it’s just good to go back to basics. I’m guessing this is what was on the minds of Bart Mahoney and Chef Bryan Ogden when they decided to collaborate on Munch Bar which is now open, at Caesars Palace. I was quite touched when I realized that the powers that be had decided to bestow upon me the honorific of being the sole preview diner on 4/20 (a duty I held sacrosanct) – a bedazzled gastronomic guinea pig, if you will – for their new restaurant.
Mahoney (the 20-year food-and-beverage legend responsible for the F&B departments at Bellagio, then CityCenter) and Ogden (the man sporting the toque at his father, Bradley’s, much-praised namesake Las Vegas venue) decided to go against the grain, and open what is very much a fun, feel-good diner. The Munch Bar menu offers its customers exactly what its name purports – munchies; albeit particularly gourmet munchies, but munchies all the same. You know; finger-food, nibbley things, on-the-go victuals, etc.
Case in point: The Munch Burger. Served in a toasted hot dog bun, topped with sautéed onions and “Funky Sauce” with a side of French fries, it’s tasty, tidy, novel, and perfect for someone who might have imbibed a bit too much and is in peril of spilling. Then there’s The Munch Breakfast Sandwich. Thick-cut grilled Canadian bacon, French fries, and sausage gravy, topped with a fried egg and served on a crispy English muffin, this sandwich is best eaten with a knife and fork (though, at twenty minutes past four in the a-m, utensils tend to fall by the wayside).
There’s also a particularly strong beer selection, including favorites like Guinness, Fat Tire Amber Ale, Stella Artois, Pyramid Wheaten Ale, and a variety of lagers, pilsners and ales hailing from Milwaukee to Mexico, as well as a tasty thirst-quencher I rather enjoyed from Canada, by the name of Wyder’s Dry Pear Cider.
Ideally situated in Caesars Palace, next to Pure Nightclub, with plasma screen TVs throughout, a Nintendo Wii (seriously), and a vajayjay-level-view of the go-go girls grinding-away the hours at the Pussycat Dolls Casino, Munch Bar is certain to be a big hit with the denizens of the Sports Book and Poker Room – both of which are mere hops, skips, and jumps away. So, picture it: You’re wandering through Caesars Palace, minding your own business, and you feel a little rumble in your tummy. You look at your watch, proclaim “Oh my God! It’s Four Twenty!” and realize with despair that you’ll never make it to dinner. But what to do? It’s not like you can zip by a drive-through when you’re staying in a major Strip casino. Well, fret no more: Munch Bar To Go is here! Just walk-up to the MBTG take-out window, grab an order of Tiny Grilled Cheese Sandwiches or Mini Corn Dogs, and you’re good to go! (A hamburger in a hot dog bun… Really, what’ll they think of next?) Munch Bar at Caesars Palace THIS JUST IN! Chef David Robins is seeking a new best friend.
